Activities/Goals for the Year:

An application for Green Sanctuary Candidacy was submitted to the Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth in February 2008.  The application required an action plan including twelve activities for our congregation to accomplish.  The activities were developed by the committee and will require the partnership and cooperation of other committees and the congregation as a whole.  The activities include:

1)      Create an outdoor labyrinth for worship and reflection

2)      Involve a member of the committee in a sermon topic that will energize the congregation to reach out to the wider community in advocacy of social and environmental justice

3)      Involve native Americans in an annual service that will emphasize universal brotherhood and sound environmental principles

4)      Provide age appropriate activities for the youth RE on environmentally significant days such as Earth Day and World Environment Day

5)      Produce a Green Guide Series for the adult congregation on a variety of environmental issues

6)      Partner with the Codorus Creek Improvement Partnership to improve water quality in the local watershed

7)      Partner with Habitat for Humanity to provide ways to increase environmental awareness for incoming residents of Habitat projects.

8)      Conduct an energy audit of the property

9)      Emphasize the importance of maintaining personal vehicles in good condition for maximum fuel economy by conducting occasional tire pressure surveys

10)  Install a bike rack on the property to encourage congregants to bike ride to service and to meetings

11)  Survey the congregation on their recycling practices and report back on the results

12)  Create a map of the county to alert the congregation about other members who may desire carpooling opportunities as a way to reduce fuel consumption and increase feelings of connectedness among participants

As these action plans are completed, they will be replaced by subsequent plans that will guide the congregation toward a greater respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
