Committee Mission / Purpose Statement:

Worship is a lifting of the spirit and an enriching of the mind. Although the immediate focus of worship is the Sunday morning service, the challenge is to extend the concept of worship into our individual and communal lives, so that every act is seen as a spiritual opportunity.

To this end the Worship Committee will work with the minister and the congregation to develop soul-transforming liturgies which are truly ‘the work of the people’, enabling and inspiring those who experience them to understand, celebrate, internalize, and implement the seven principles of Unitarian Universalism and so to take them into the wider sanctuary of the world at large.

In particular the Worship Committee, in partnership with the minister will

§         facilitate Sunday services which honor and enrich the spirit through word, music, meditation, and community;

§         coordinate the duties necessary for the formal act of worship to be aesthetically pleasing and seamless in execution;

§         assist and guide members who volunteer as worship coordinators;

§         arrange for guest speakers to fill the pulpit in the absence of the minister and during the summer;

§         in conjunction with the Director of Music, arrange for the participation and integration of music and musicians in the service;

§         submit and monitor an annual budget for worship.

Meetings of the committee will be conducted in such a way as to honor the inherent worth and dignity of every person will evidence a spirit of compassion and acceptance, and will respect the democratic process.
