The Board of UUCY is delighted to announce that on Sunday, November 16, 2025, with a majority of 99%, UUCY has voted to call Rev. Christin Green as our settled minister, and she has chosen us as her settled congregation. We hired her as a contract minister starting in August 2024 and she has proven herself to be solid and an excellent fit for us. We can look forward to a bright future with Rev. Christin as our minister.
As winter approaches, days grow shorter, and the world around us seems to change. This month is a wonderful time to notice the light that shines in ourselves and others. In Unitarian Universalism, we believe that hope is a choice we can make, a choice that helps us act with courage, kindness, and curiosity, which helps us stay connected to each other and the world around us.
In our PreK-3 classes, our first lesson focuses on choosing to create light for each other, as we learn of a famous UU, Louis Latimer, an inventor who, literally, created light. Our second lesson focuses on hope and choosing that we can trust life to help us. We find wisdom in the world's religions as we are inspired by the Chanukah story. Grades 4-7 continue their study of world religions as they focus this month on Protestantism. Be on the lookout for notices of their next field trip from their teachers. December winds up with our Children's Pageant on December 21st. We look forward to continuing sharing your Children's Faith Development together! Your browser does not support viewing this document. UUCY's 4-7th Grade RE Class went to visit the St. Steven's Church in York on Saturday, November 15 as part of their Soul Matters curriculum, Crossing Paths.
Our K-1 class is wrapping up their 8 sessions, which will complete on 12/7/2025! The photo below is our facilitator Meda Higa teaching our K-1 students.
Additionally, the 8/9th Grade class is in full swing completing 6 of the 25 workshops. There are 9 students and a team of 7 facilitators! Stay tuned for our upcoming 4/5th Grade class, with a parent orientation happening on 12/14/2025. Visit our Our Whole Lives (OWL) page for more information about our wonderful program, classes, and facilitators! Have you ever managed a contractor to do work at your work or home? Have you ever gone through the process of getting multiple bids for something, at work or at home, and then worked through the selection of the right contractor? UUCY needs project managers to do just that sort of thing for the various OFOF things that need to be done. They're broken into standalone projects for manageability, and we have people already in place to provide technical background. If you think this fits your skills and aptitudes, contact Jake Miller or Lisa Paulos to find out more.
Some folks have expressed interest in hiking one of the trails at the Wizard Ranch Nature Preserve on Accomac Rd, Hallam. The Preserve’s website has all the info you’ll need, including the GPS directions to get you there. Even if you’ve previously visited, the Lancaster Conservancy has been hard at work making improvements, and there are more trails to explore.
For those who might be interested and available, Joan Fulton will lead a walk there Sunday, November 16 following our vote to call Rev. Christin. We can carpool from church provided the weather cooperates. I plan to do about a mile and a half over rolling terrain. There’s a stream to cross, so hiking boots are a good idea. No need to RSVP, just show up at UUCY Sunday morning. It just might be a good opportunity to celebrate! The Kitchen Witch wants to know:
1. Whose are these? 2. Where is the two step white step stool with black treads that used to be in the kitchen? |
