We are delighted to announce that UUCY has been awarded a $40,000 Chalice Lighters grant that will partially fund the planned campus upgrade beginning this spring and summer. Many thanks to all of you who signed up to be Chalice Lighters last year, which gave us a better chance in the application process. We also express our deep gratitude to all those involved in writing the application, including Board members, the B&G and Finance Committees, and the Green Team. The success of the application demonstrates the value of working together in community to achieve shared goals. May we continue to show our faith in action by sustaining this mutual effort. You can find the application (and an excellent mini history of UUCY and description of the entire project) by clicking the button below.

There is so much that goes into providing what UUCY offers everyone of us – worship and spiritual growth and religious education, our beautifully maintained campus, important social justice work and a supportive community. Who gets all this work done? Besides our amazing paid staff (Rev Christin and Sarah) it is all done by VOLUNTEERS in the name of shared ministry. So, a huge THANK YOU to every volunteer who contributes their time and talent to UUCY in so many ways.

The Nominating Committee is beginning its annual charge to fill open Board and Standing Committee chair positions. The Committee will present a slate of candidates for election at the May Congregational Meeting. See below the open positions the Committee is seeking to fill.

If you can contribute your time, talent and passion to UUCY to fill any of these positions, or if you know a member who you think possesses such, please contact a member of the Nominating Committee.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to feel deeply rooted into the UUCY community. Volunteering is a way of expressing your belief in UUCY. If everyone contributes something, all the work is lighter. Please seriously consider saying yes when asked to serve – and be part of the fabulous many who make UUCY the vibrant church community it is.

OPEN POSITIONS:
Board Vice Chair (serves on Board 3 yrs as vice chair, chair and past chair)
Board Director (serves on Board for 3 yrs as an advisor and contributes to accomplishing Board
goals)
Building & Grounds Chair (2 yr term, oversees the team who maintains church buildings and
grounds)
Finance Chair (2 yr term, guides long term financial strategy)
Nominating Committee Member (2 yr term, annually prepares slate for open Board and Standing Committee Chair positions)
Stewardship Chair (2 yr term, runs annual pledge campaign & maintains pledge records)

Board Leadership Transition | Board of Directors

Dear Members of UUCY,

I am writing to let you know that I have made the difficult decision to step down as chair of the UUCY Board. I have discussed my reasons for stepping down at length with Rev. Christin.

I was so honored to be elected by all of you to serve on the board, first as vice chair last year, chair this year, and then as past chair. Over the last year and a half, I have been privileged to help with different projects, meet new people, and see the hard work all of you do to keep UUCY the vibrant religious community it is. The highlight of my tenure was facilitating the congregational meeting to call Rev. Christin as the settled minister for UUCY. I remain beyond thrilled that she has accepted the call. I know that UUCY will work with her in shared ministry moving forward.

There are not enough ways to thank all of you for the time and talent you bring to UUCY; please know that my gratitude is constant. Again, it has been my pleasure to serve all of you.

All My Best,
Lisa Paulos

The UUCY Ramblers gather weekly to stay connected and healthy. Members and friends who like to walk are encouraged to join us when you can. The upcoming walks will be held on Wednesday mornings, 9 AM, at different parks around York County. Walks will be 2 – 3 miles. Whether you prefer brisk or leisurely walking, all are welcome to come and walk at your own pace. If you have questions about a specific walk, contact the walk coordinator listed below.

In addition to the regular monthly schedule noted below, we may occasionally schedule special walks at various locations on other days during the week. If interested in leading such a walk, contact Joan Fulton. Just like our ramble schedule, you will find the extra walks listed in the Wednesday Beacon and on the UUCY calendar.

Below is the new monthly schedule for Jan-April 2026:

First Wednesday: YORK TOWNSHIP PARK, 25 Oak St, York (Meet in the large parking lot on the main access road.) | Coordinator: Kathy Smith 717-891-9568

Second Wednesday: UPMC HOSPITAL, 1701 Innovation Dr, York (Parking spaces are designated for trail walkers on the outside edge of the parking lot.) | Coordinator: Joan Fulton 717-873-7541

Third Wednesday: NIXON PARK, 5922 Nixon Drive (From York, follow S. George St. through Jacobus to Valley Road. Turn right, follow road .8 mile to bottom of hill; turn right onto Nixon Dr., go one block and turn left onto Nixon Dr., and follow to parking lot) | Coordinator: Marta Smith 760-914-0639

Fourth Wednesday: JOHN RUDY PARK, 400 Mundis Race Road, York (Park in the main lot near the pavilions.) | Coordinator: Lynne Lavery 717-887-6863

Fifth Wednesday on April 29: HOLLOW CREEK GREENWAY, 400 Valley Road, Jacobus (Meet at trailhead parking lot) | Coordinator: Deb Gogniat 717-578-3085

Walks are rarely canceled, but if in doubt, give the walk coordinator a call.
